Who we are
Beerspotter (“the app”) and beerspotter.hu are operated by Máté Rezsek, Hungary (“we”). Questions about this policy: rezsekmv.dev@gmail.com.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- Your location is used only to search for places near you, and only while you use the app.
- We do not store your location or any personal data on our servers.
- Your preferences stay on your device.
Location data
The app's whole purpose is to point you to nearby places, so it asks for your device's location (“while using the app” permission). Your coordinates are used in two ways:
- On your device — to aim the compass and compute distances. Heading (compass) data never leaves the device.
- As a search query — your approximate coordinates and a search radius are sent to map-data providers to find places around you (see “Data providers” below). The query contains nothing else: no identifiers, no account, no history.
We do not store, log or build any history of your location. Each search is processed and forgotten.
Data providers
Place results come from three sources:
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) — queried directly from your device. Subject to the OSMF privacy policy.
- Google Places — queried through our proxy server (see below). Subject to the Google privacy policy.
- Foursquare Places — queried through our proxy server. Subject to the Foursquare privacy policy.
Each provider receives only the coordinates and radius of your search (plus standard network metadata such as your IP address, which any internet request carries).
Our proxy server
Google and Foursquare requests pass through our own server (api.beerspotter.hu), which exists solely to keep API credentials off your device. It forwards your search and returns the answer. It keeps short-lived, in-memory request counters per IP address for abuse protection (rate limiting); these are never written to disk and disappear within minutes. It stores no personal data.
Data stored on your device
Your settings — chosen place types, enabled data sources, result count and your age confirmation — are saved only in the app's local storage on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
This website
beerspotter.hu is a static site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the standard request metadata (your IP address and browser details) when the page loads.
Age limit
Beerspotter is intended for adults of legal drinking age (18+ in Hungary) and asks you to confirm this on first launch. We do not knowingly process data of minors.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection. Because we keep no personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to look up or delete — but you can always contact us at rezsekmv.dev@gmail.com, or lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (in Hungary: NAIH, naih.hu).
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
